The operator drives defensively, strictly following traffic laws, and remains vigilant of traffic lights, other vehicles, and pedestrians to prevent accidents, embodying the Spirit of Aloha.

Essential Job Functions

The incumbent must ensure all documentation complies with DOT regulations to maintain driver eligibility, perform duties professionally and courteously, and maintain a neat appearance. They must interact without discrimination, stay calm in emergencies, and clearly communicate behavior guidelines to passengers. Daily tasks include customer service, pre-trip vehicle inspections, reporting issues, fueling, route updates, and system checks, as well as preparing passes and maintaining uniforms. During runs, drivers assist passengers with special needs, ensure orderly pickups and drop-offs, report details accurately, and provide safe transportation. After each trip, they conduct post-trip inspections, refuel, complete paperwork, and report incidents per company policy. The role also involves performing related duties as assigned or requested to ensure safe and efficient transit services.

Essential Skills

The position requires candidates to be at least 21 years old, successfully complete all necessary training, and attend designated meetings. Proficiency in reading, speaking, and understanding English is crucial, especially for effective communication during roadside inspections conducted by the State DOT’s Motor Vehicle Safety Office. Candidates must be able to clearly announce stops and points of interest, perform basic math calculations, and work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays under tight deadlines. The role demands strong interpersonal skills to handle complex situations, strict adherence to company substance abuse policies, and compliance with DOT testing regulations. Applicants must maintain current documentation such as a Class B driver’s license with P endorsement, Hawaii Driver History Record, and Medical Clearance Card. The position emphasizes promoting respect, safety, teamwork, and punctuality, with expectations of independent work, accountability, and ongoing professional development. Candidates should communicate honestly, support company values, and be comfortable working with international partners and understanding global markets.
