MAUI HUMANE SOCIETY

The Maui Humane Society is committed to protect and save the lives of Maui’s animals, accepting all in need, educating the community, and inspiring respect and compassion towards all animals.

Primary Purpose: Following an enrichment program provided by the Enrichment Manager (EM) helps to promote positive mental and physical health. The Enrichment Technician (ET) is responsible for providing species appropriate activities and opportunities; with regular provision of individual animal’s needs including dynamic environments, balancing rest and stimulation, cognitive challenges and social opportunities.

Essential Duties/Functions:

  • Assist the EM in planning and implementing weekly species-specific enrichment and physical activities.
  • Prepare and clean up enrichment activities for all species, maintaining supply organization and inventory.
  • Adjust animal habitats to support natural behaviors.
  • Record and report animals’ responses to enrichment activities, and monitor individual animal welfare.
  • Lead and collaborate with Enrichment Program volunteers.
  • Participate in Dog Playgroup sessions to understand individual dogs’ behaviors and enrichment needs.
  • Maintain updated communication (spreadsheets, PetPoint, Smartboards, email).
  • Select candidates for dog outing programs and update related data and observations.
  • Promote MHS, represent at public events and fundraisers.
  • Identify and report equipment repair or replacement needs, and correct safety hazards.
  • Communicate effectively with DAC on relevant issues.
  • Participate in disaster preparedness and response activities.
  • Attend departmental and shelter meetings and educational opportunities.
  • Assist with daily feeding and cleaning of shelter animals as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively, transitioning efficiently between tasks.
  • Handle animals safely with patience, gentleness, and compassion.
  • Understand and use humane training methods aligned with MHS mission.
  • Provide high-level customer service, even under stress.
  • Foster positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; attention to detail; reliable in meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Forms); capable of designing forms, spreadsheets, and promotional materials.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
