Tis the season to give back! The holiday season is a time to share what we have with those who have less. Maui has many opportunities to volunteer your time and resources. We hope that by connecting with a non-profit you’ll consider volunteering all year ’round.
Each year the Maui Food Bank distributes 2.5 million pounds of safe, nutritious food. They need community support to help residents who are in danger of going hungry. The MFB can buy more food with your monetary donations than you can as an individual. $1 can provide four meals! Use their online payment form to send a secure donation. If you’d like to donate your time, fill out the contact form, check off where you’d like to help (warehouse, office or special events) and they’ll get back to you.
Maui has many ways to help people and animals. 808 Volunteers is an online directory for many non-profits throughout the islands. Search by island or type of work. Be able to see all of the places you can give back and find contact information to get in touch directly.
Feed My Sheep is a unique mobile food distribution program. They take their distribution to neighborhoods of need each week where staff and volunteers pass out groceries to those who need our help and qualify financially. Sign up online or call Scott at 808-872-9100.
Share Your Mana understands the complexities of living unsheltered and the actions necessary to move individuals into self-sufficiency. Share Your Mana grew out of years of witnessing the deterioration of the quality of life of many individuals who are struggling to make a life for themselves and their family on Maui. They have a no-nonsense, one-stop-shop approach to navigating the existing resources with food, shelter and laundry services being at the top of the list. Connect with Lisa Darcy to find out how you can help bring hope to the homeless on Maui.
No matter how you choose to give back, by donating money or giving of your time, we hope you connect with the spirit of this season and choose thankfulness.
