Job Description

Under the direction of the Benefits Manager, this position is responsible for assisting with direct community outreach efforts. This position conducts outreach at low-income housing sites, food pantries, homeless shelters and other appropriate sites to educate potential clients about SNAP, Med-QUEST and other government programs and to assist with the application process. This position is accountable for accurate benefit application completion and submission from start to finish on behalf of clients. Attention to detail is a must.

This is a remote position that requires local travel to several sites throughout Maui. Work is done in the field and at partner locations. It is essential that the applicant have reliable transportation and be willing to drive. Occasional travel to other islands is also necessary. Must be okay flying on commuter airlines.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

· Attention to detail

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Excellent computer skills, including excel spreadsheet creation and maintenance, data entry into software system

· Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others

· Patient and calm demeanor

· Minimum requirement of Associates Degree and two years of experience working with underserved populations or a Bachelors’ Degree

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

· Licensed to drive in the state of Hawai`i

· Clean driving history

· Must have own transportation

· Minimum 21 years of age or older

· Must be able to bend, lift, and carry up to fifty pounds.

· Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

· Must be able to work in an outdoor environment, including extreme heat and rain

· Must be able to travel to other islands on occasion, sometimes for overnight stays
