Job Description

Care Hawaii is a behavioral health care organization seeking a compassionate and dependable Crisis Counselor. CARE will be providing Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCP) to the survivors of the Maui wildfires and is looking for community members who can provide face-to-face support.

Position Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and or GED with at least one year experience in counseling. Bachelor and/or Master’s level degrees in the Human Services Field.
  • Preferred experience in counseling and/or therapy

  • Assessment, Referral, and Resource Linkage
  • Development and Distribution of Educational Materials

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Connect with community members who are requesting Crisis Counseling services via community outreaches. The CCP counselors will provide individual, group and community training. Services will be provided to adults and children that are survivors or impacted by the Maui Wildfires.
  • Crisis counselors will participate in all SAMSHA required training as designated. Participation in team meetings, in person and or via zoom will be required, as necessary.
  • Work in a culturally sensitive manner with individuals, families, and groups to provide outreach, emotional support, virtual individual and group crisis counseling, public education, and referrals when needed.
  • Possess knowledge of local and statewide resources and assistance available to individuals and families impacted by Maui Wildfires.
  • Possess a basic understanding of grief/loss/traumatic experiences.
  • Establish trust and identify resources that would benefit their situation.
  • Provide counseling, promote resilience and successful coping techniques, and explore the mental and emotional state-of-mind through active, comforting, positive, and problem-solving language.
  • To use the skills taught during the SAMHSH approved CCP trainings to help process the impacts of experiencing the Maui Wildfires.
  • Engage with survivors and or community members to help identify and provide linkage to resources.
  • Use the PROVIDER designated digital applications to provide CCP services.
  • Use the STATE designated digital applications to collect and enter CCP service data in an accurate and timely manner.
