Job Corps: What is it?
Did you know Maui has a Job Corps Campus in Makawao? Job Corps is a federally funded job training program that is free to qualified students. While you may have to talk to an admissions counselor to find out if you are eligible, here are some of the qualifications you would need to meet to apply:
- low-income
- 16- through 24-year-olds
- S. citizens, legal U.S. residents or residents of a U.S. territory, and/or individuals who are authorized to work in the United States.
If you meet those basic requirements an admissions counselor will determine if Job Corps is a good fit for you. The job training programs the Maui Campus offer are in the following areas:
- Building and Construction Apprentice
- Hospitality/Culinary Arts
- Hospitality/Hotel Lodging
- Finance & Business/Office Administration
If you’re interested in a program that isn’t full time, you can also apply to day classes which doesn’t require you to live there on the Hawaii Job Corp Campus.
