Finding quality childcare at an affordable price has always been a challenge for parents. Now with school closures due to Covid, it can be extra hard. Now is the time to apply for preschool and childcare subsidies for the 2022-2023 school year. We hope that the following resources and ideas will be helpful as you navigate finding a safe place for your child while you work.
The Child Care Connection Hawaii (CCCH) subsidy program helps low-income families to sustain their employment, educational efforts and job training by paying a subsidy for their children who are in the care of DHS-approved child care providers.
The Preschool Open Doors (POD) program is a separate subsidy program with limited funds that provides services state-wide to families sending their children to a licensed preschool during the school year prior to kindergarten entry.
Both of these programs have low income requirements so be sure to check their website for the latest information, application download and FAQs. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2022.
Maui Family Support Services is another organization with a mission to help families with childcare support. They have childcare subsidies that working families can qualify for. Visit their website for the latest information and application.

Private Nanny Services
In a pinch, you may need to reserve a nanny through a local service. Both The Nanny Connection and Happy Kids Maui hire background checked nannies with CPR/First Aid certifications. They also have teachers who work with them part-time, so if your child needs extra help, or is distance learning for a while, a nanny could also be a tutor.
